Spelling words: be this from I have or by one had not
Phonics – We are still working on long and short vowels. The students are also working on blending two consonants together to make one sound. (Ex: sn, tr, ch, sh, th)
Guided Reading has finally started and I will be sending new books home every night except for Friday. We go to the library on Friday and I like to allow them to just enjoy their library book over the weekend. I am very excited about the guided reading program and can’t wait to see the growth that will take place. This gives me a chance to work with the kids in small groups and really helps them to take off in their reading.
Math – We are still in Chapter 2 working on addition. The centers are changing and the students are able to really apply their skills with some hands-on fun. I will be adding domino addition and dice addition this week. Please help your child make a real life connection with math. (ex. counting groups of pennies, 3 pennies plus 5 pennies equals 8 pennies)
Writing – The class will continue to create a class book with a page for every child. The students created an all about me page that we are using to write about the student of the day. We interactively write about one student a day and post our writing outside for all to see, after we have all students completed we will create a class big book.
Science – Our study of the seasons has begun. I told the students if they found any colorful leaves, acorns, etc… that reminded them of fall to please bring them to class. We will be going to the nature center (as soon as I notice a lot of different colors) to gather items for a class project.
You are surely learning a lot. I also see that you have visitors from New York. Wow!
